Osborne 


Isle of Wight's English Heritage properties Osborne and Carisbrooke Castle are both holding special events over half term.

There’s a chance to ride a Victorian penny-farthing bicycle as Mr Phoebus joins the fun at Victoria’s Fabulous Garden Party at Osborne, East Cowes. This grand occasion at the famous royal residence is on from Tuesday 30th May to 1st June. Celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday with a fabulous party at her favourite home by the sea. A not to be missed opportunity to experience a traditional garden extravaganza with lady side saddle riders, jugglers, a Victorian photographer, a plethora of children’s games and pretend rifle drills, sideshows, and of delicious tea, cake and ice cream. Cavaliers & Roundheads

Meanwhile at the island’s storybook castle there’s Cavaliers & Roundheads daily from Saturday 27th May to Sunday 4 June, 10am – 5pm. A lively children’s event where you can discover what it took to be a soldier of the English Civil War. There’s a test of agility for kids as they go to battle (with foam swords!) and a chance to learn cavalry skills and to master weapon in a soldiers drill. To also an opportunity to learn more about the castle’s history and hear tales from the Civil War including the story of King Charles I who was a prisoner at the fortress near Newport.
